Browsers

So I recently installed Vmware 16 on Mint 20 and it works pretty darned well. I wanted to install some older Windows versions and, of course, browsers are a problem. There are two projects which provide working browsers for older Windows versions – anything beginning with Windows XP service pac 3. They are MyPal (based on Firefox) and Supremium (based on Chrome). You can download the most recent versions of both (as of today, March 29th, 2025) here.

Supremium has an installer, and, you simply extract the MyPal folder to somewhere on your computer and launch the program by clicking the executable file. As of this writing they both work well, play YouTube videos, etc. You can even sign in to your Google account and sync data with Supremium.

You can download a .zip archive here that contains Supremium and MyPal. By the way: This archive contains a fairly old version of MyPal and an installer for Explorer 8. This is some superfluous junk that I have left in this .zip file for archival – and fairly pointless – reasons.

The heading says it all: My experience is that no version of XP will produce video output if graphics acceleration is enabled in VMware.

Getting in and out of full screen mode

I need to add to this section. For the time being I am just going to note that getting out of full screen mode in VMware requires the following input:
